An alumna of Vassar College, Ms. Yamashita graduated from the Boston University School of Law in 1998 with honors in the concentration of litigation and alternative dispute resolution. She practiced law in Boston and New York where she litigated complex malpractice cases for a multinational law firm. She has handled tens of thousands of cases in numerous jurisdictions for more than twenty-five years. She has practiced law as a special prosecutor for more than a decade.

In 2024, Ms. Yamashita was elected to serve as an officer of the Women's Bar Association of the State of New York (WBASNY), the largest women's bar association in the United States. She is the first person from her chapter to be elected as an officer of WBASNY.
She served two terms as President of the Mid-Hudson Women's Bar Association.

Ms. Yamashita resides in the Hudson Valley with her family.
